KERN, Michael A. “Mike” aka “Pearl”, age 56 of Dayton, Ohio passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at Kettering Hospital. Mike was born September 6, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio to Raymond A. and Mary E. (Gilliland) Kern. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond and his sister Phyllis Arvay. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cathy, his daughter Andrea and his two sons Bryan and Jeffrey, and his mother Mary Fleming. He is also survived by his brother Gene and his wife Nancy of Tucson, Arizona and his brother Jim and his wife Kathy of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Mike grew up in Dayton and graduated from John H. Patterson High School and Wright State University, where he was a founding member of Beta Phi Omega fraternity. He was founder and CEO of MK & Associates, a highly successful Marketing and Client Services Firm with business assignments throughout the USA and Europe and as far reaching as Russia. He was a committed Parrothead and a lifelong guitar player and rock and roller with several bands including his beloved Chixie Dicks, who performed monthly at Norton’s. Mike loved the concept of getting the party involved with the fun – from his annual Jimmy Buffett concert soirees which filled a bus (what happens on the bus stays on the bus) to parties at the house - he loved people, starting with his family. A great dad and loving husband he always had time for his children, coaching and supporting all their activities, while offering the guiding hand and motivation to launch them in life. Often described as the “glue that holds us all together” he had a gift for inspiring others in work and at play. A memorial service will be held Saturday February 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the B&B Riverfront, 17R South Main Street, Miamisburg, followed immediately by a reception.
